WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest junior Johnny Aiello was picked as a preseason first team All-American by Collegiate Baseball on Monday afternoon.

Aiello had a strong sophomore campaign in 2017, finishing the year with a .328 average, 17 doubles, 53 RBIs and four stolen bases. He also added 20 longballs, a mark which ranks tied for fourth in program history.

The Deacon third baseman will be one of five returning starters on offense from a team which went 43-20 last year, including a 19-11 ACC record, and swept the Winston-Salem Regional before finishing a game away from the College World Series.

Wake Forest led the country with 106 homers a season ago, becoming the first team to reach triple-digit homers in the BBCOR era.

The Deacs also received votes in the Collegiate Baseball preseason poll after finishing 2017 ranked in the top 20.

Wake Forest opens the season from Feb. 16-18, taking on Georgetown, Navy and Gardner-Webb at home.
