Ficke Cancer Foundation Presents $120,000 in Gifts From 9/11 Day of Giving ProceedsAssistant Coordinator of Basketball Operations Dan Ficke serves as President of Foundation 12/18/2011 Wake Forest vs. Gardner-Webb - Dec. 18, 2011Wake Forest vs. Gardner-Webb - Dec. 18, 2011 Dan Ficke is in his third season on the Wake Forest basketball staff in 2012-13, serving Special Assistant to the Head Coach/Director of Player Relations. Ficke (pronounced "FICK-ee"), who joined the staff in May of 2010, serves as a liason between Wake Forest staff members and the student-athletes. He monitors the players' academics and daily schedules and is also responsible for assisting with team travel, meals and other logistics within the basketball office. Ficke served as the program's Assistant Coordinator of Operations during his first two seasons on staff. "We're excited to have Dan join our staff," said Demon Deacon head coach Jeff Bzdelik upon Ficke's hiring. "He is a young guy with a wealth of basketball knowledge and experience. He played Division I basketball as a scholarship student-athlete at Loyola, and he has great basketball bloodlines. Dan has obviously been around the game all of his life and will be a great addition to our program." A native of Englewood, Colo., Ficke played four seasons at Loyola University Maryland, helping the Greyhounds win a combined 64 games from 2005-09. The 6-6 forward was a member of the 2007-08 Loyola squad that won a school-record 19 games. Ficke earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Loyola in 2009. He then went on to earn his MBA, with a concentration in management, from Loyola in 2010. Ficke served as the head JV coach and assistant varsity coach at the Boys Latin School of Maryland in Baltimore during the 2009-10 season. Ficke played on the prep level at Regis Jesuit High School in Aurora, Colo., earning second team all-state and honorable mention All-America honors as a senior. Ficke is the son of former NBA assistant coach and scout Bill Ficke. Bill spent a combined four seasons with the Denver Nuggets, Utah Jazz and New Jersey Nets, coaching alongside Larry Brown and Doug Moe. Bill also played under legendary coach Al McGuire at Belmont Abbey. Dan Ficke serves as the president of the JoAnn B. Ficke Cancer Foundation, which was created to aid in the fight against cancer and honor Dan's late mother who passed away from the disease three years ago. Ficke currently resides in Winston-Salem.
