Wake Forest Head Coach Jeff Bzdelik

Opening statement...
"As a basketball coach, I'm really pleased and happy for my basketball team. They have worked extremely hard over the last several days since returning from break. They will tell you that I've been very hard on them and they've responded very well. They fought hard. When Xavier took the lead with just over seven minutes to go, I think we responded with a 12-0 run, so I am very pleased with the grit and toughness that they showed."

On what he changed at first timeout after the slow start...
"We didn't change anything. To be honest with you, we start three freshmen. It's not an excuse but I think sometimes we start the game looking around and I'm not sure what's going on. Then the light goes on and it's time to play. We got some stops and some easy baskets in transition and that got us going."

On the defensive difference from the first half to the second half...
"I think in the first half, they (Xavier) had 22 points in the paint and they only got 10 in the second half. In the first half, we were a little late on our double-teams in the post and we did a much better job of protecting the paint."

On defending Travis Taylor in the second half...
"In the first half, we didn't double-team him and he put the ball on the floor and got to the rim. For whatever reason, we didn't react and we corrected that at halftime. I thought we did a much better job in the second half."

Xavier Head Coach Chris Mack

Opening statement...
"Give a lot of credit to Wake Forest and coach (Jeff) Bzdelik. I thought their kids did a really good job of competing tonight, I know they're very young. Their ability to turn us over, mostly in the half court and our inability to finish around the basket in the second half prevented us from winning the game. We've got to do a much better job. We've been pretty good up until the past two games of protecting the basketball and not turning it over. We're making, in my opinion, careless decisions with the basketball. We have to show a little more patience, and that to me was the story. Look at field goals were even, free throws were even, rebounds were fairly even, turnovers for both teams were fairly even. Their ability to make threes and our inability to connect from the three point line ... we had to make up for it by making shots around the basket; through conventional and-ones. But give Wake Forest a lot of credit, we've got to pick ourselves up off the mat and it's frustrating."

On Travis Taylor cooling off in the second half...
"Well they're a team that posts traps. We were trying to get the ball into `Trav' and I think the second play of the second half, they get a steal, deflection and a run-out. They tried to crowd his touches and trap most of his touches in the second half. Other guys have to step up. Trav played about as well as he could on the offensive end. That's a credit to Wake Forest in terms of taking away our post game."

On the change in momentum...
"I thought the momentum swung when we gave up two offensive rebounds on two missed free throws. I thought Wake was trying to find themselves a bit. I thought we were taking control of the game and then two back breaking rebounds on the free throw line when we already have inside position. I think they come away in those two possessions with five points."

On his return to Wake Forest...
"It's my second experience (back). It's always special to come back to the Joel. Unfortunately I've been on the losing end both times. But it's a credit to Wake and their program."
