Wake Forest Head Coach Jeff Bzdelik

Opening statement...
"This was a great, gutty win by our young basketball team. We didn't score a field goal in the last 10:22, I believe. We had some good looks, had some layups and some free throws. You know what? We showed we're very resilient. We really were. We just battled; defend our tails off from wire to wire. Just a great win for our basketball team. They've been working really hard; I'm really proud of these guys. I'm really happy for them, they deserve this."

On playing tough defense in the second half...
"We've been working really hard on the defensive end. Defense is a team effort. This group of players; they're really growing together as a group. That's how you defend; that's how you manufacture good offense. It's a team game, their growth not only on the court but off the court as a group of guys who really care about one another. It's showing as we improve. We are improving. We learned a lot from the Duke game and it carried over to tonight."

On limiting Virginia to only three three-pointers...
"They were 8-14 against (North) Carolina from the three point arc ... they are an excellent three point shooting team. It was my decision not to double. What we're doing is we're allowing them to catch it too deep in the lane and they were actually catching the ball just stepping in on us, right in front of the basket in the first half. We talked about how to defend the post better and not allow them to catch it so deep, but I didn't really want to double at all. We didn't want their guys to get going. They made a couple of tough shots."

On the final seconds of the game...
"Well, I thought about fouling right away and just putting them on the line. I decided against that, I really did. Now all of a sudden, you foul them and there's four seconds to go and miss a free throw. It hasn't been a real strength of ours, blocking out in the free throw lane. I just put C.J. (Harris) on (Joe) Harris and just get on top of them. (Joe) Harris was taking the ball out of bounds and when Harris took the ball out of bounds, it was like, C.J. just get into them and don't let them catch it."

Opening statement...
"I think we were outplayed for the majority of that game, 35 minutes. The effort was okay, but the soundness is what was lacking. We got out of the gates and turned the ball over at alarming rate. Our upperclassmen were out of sync (and) played rushed. That really affected us. They spread us out and did some good things but, we lacked some soundness; whether it was getting lifted on shot fakes or gambling a little bit. I thought offensively we gambled a little bit."

On the final seconds of the game...
"We had used a lot of our plays to get us back to that point. (Joe Harris) is kind of a trail and there was some action we were looking for but we didn't have a timeout so we tried to call it and set it up. Jontel (Evans) was supposed to push it and whether it was Mike (Tobey) or we had some action coming, that hopefully was going to get a good luck at a three. I told our guys that they battled hard to get back to that spot. But don't feel too good about that. You got to look at the majority of that game and learn from that. Grow from it, we have to. We hit some tough shots, some plays down the stretch, some nice offensive rebounds to get us to close that gap. The meat of the game, there wasn't enough there. I thought Mike Tobey did some nice things offensively. Justin Anderson really got on the offensive glass as did Akil (Mitchell). You got to be sounder than that the majority of the game to be in there."

On the 10-game losing streak in the Joel Coliseum for Virginia...
"Every team in every year is different. I think Wake Forest did a nice job. They spread us out. Statistically it wasn't much. They made some free throws and such. We broke ourselves down some and they made enough plays to extend the lead. When you go on the road, you have to bring an approach that is you're willing to execute ... we just got out of sync."
