Wake Forest Head Coach Danny Manning

Opening statement...
"This afternoon was a very exciting game to say the least. I think both teams played hard. I think both teams need to do a better job of playing defense with their head and their feet and not fouling as much because we committed 20 fouls and they committed 26. But at the end of the game we were very fortunate. We put [junior center Andre Washington] on the ball to make him put some air under the pass, and [Virginia Tech head coach Buzz Williams] drew up a good play and got someone open. I think we have to do a better job in those situations of making sure that we're matched up on our man because at that point in time the only shot that could tie the game was a 3-pointer. They got an open look, and we're fortunate that it didn't go in."

On the play of the offense...
"We want to hang our hats on the defensive side of the ball, but you still have to go down on the offensive end and execute. I thought we did a good job of executing. I thought [junior forward Devin Thomas] got that drop step layup late in the game off a good execution. They'd done a really good job on him all game to collapse him down, but I thought his patience was very good. He had five assists tonight, and I think four of those assists led to a wide open 3-pointer."

On the starters...
"This was [freshman forward Konstantinos Mitoglou's] first start in some time, and he responded very well. He gets 15 points and five rebounds, and I think that's an outstanding stat line. But look at [junior guard Codi Miller-McIntyre]. Codi's 7-of-7 from the field. That's very efficient...I'd like to see him rebound a little bit better, but I think whenever you don't miss a shot from the field, you're playing pretty good basketball."

On the production of the freshmen...
"We're very happy with that, but they're freshmen. That's part of being a freshman. You're going to have your peaks, you're going to have your valleys, but one thing I'll say about those guys is that they believe in themselves and we believe in them and they're not afraid to shoot the basketball."

On the closeness of the game...
"I think we do have some sense of familiarity in these situations and we just have to continue to stay focused in on our principles offensively and defensively and continue to grind and finish possessions. There were a couple times tonight when we got them to shoot a long jump shot and we knew they were going to shoot long jump shots because they're one of the best 3-point shooting teams in our league. But long jump shots mean long rebounds, and we have to do a better job of cleaning up those long rebounds."

Virginia Tech Head Coach Buzz Williams

On the final play of the game...
"That was a good play made for the floor. That was the shot we wanted...I would take it again."

On the third-straight game being a one possession game...
"That makes 6 games in a row we have lost by one possession. So 21 games, and 8 of those were one possession... that is brutal."

On when VT decided to put Justin Bibbs in...
"When you are dealing with a brain, there is no way to conclusively know what is enough evidence. I did a conference call with the doctor, his parents, and Bibbs just because as a parent, I would want to know from the coach. This morning he was part of shoot around and after shoot around the doctor met with him and formally released him. I tried to get him on Devon to see how he played. I thought he was winded but he did fine. It was step by step process."

On Codi, Devin Thomas, and Konstantinos Mitoglou today...
"He [Codi] is a really good player. Averaging five rebounds a conference game. He wants to get the ball and head to the other end to see if you can stop him. We fouled him a lot and he forced help a lot. On (Mitoglou), it may have been his career day. He could really shoot. I think (Miller-McIntyre) and (Thomas) are good enough to beat you straight up. Both those kids are really talented."

On having 6 players in double digits...
"Bibbs cannot score, so it takes the pressure off of the other guys and with Bibbs out it allows the others to take more shots."

On Christian Beyer playing smart...
"Obviously he is a Rhodes Scholar candidate which is more than you were. He is just really smart and does exactly what you ask him to do. He is never going to screw up."

Freshman Forward Konstantinos Mitoglou

On the win over Virginia Tech...
"I'm feeling like it's about time. It's been a tough couple of games we have just played, but today was a win. Every game has been so close it has definitely weighed on our emotions. But, you know, we got the win."

On the difference between this game and other close games...
"I mean this game we finished strong, which we haven't been able to do for the past couple of games. But, we still have things to improve on."

On the morale of the locker room...
"Everyone is happy. We now have confidence in ourselves and everyone is better. The feeling is better."

On heading into Tuesday's game with NC State...
"We have to keep working hard now. We face NC State on Tuesday, and they are a very good team. When we played them last, we lost. So we have to work hard these next two days and continue to win. That is our hope."

Junior Guard Codi Miller-McIntyre

On the game against Virginia Tech...
"I think we're starting to learn how important each possession is. It's good that we won this close game. We needed it."

On the feeling of getting a close win...
"I'm happy I'm able to smile and laugh after the game. We're going to have a great practice tomorrow. There's going to be a lot of energy. We just have to continue to build off of it and get better tomorrow."

On how the team has dealt with the continued close losses...
"We've had too many games where it's been that close and we've given it away. We understood that we did not want to lose that way at home on a Saturday."

On how the team pushed through being in a close game at the end...
"We understood where we wanted to be at the end of the game. They made a run and we did a great job of making it our run."

Freshman Guard Mitchell Wilbekin

On his success shooting in today's game...
"It's really not just me. They were guarding [Devin Thomas] tough so that gave me an open shot. He was willing to pass it out to me and I just caught it and let it go."

On the feeling of finally getting a close win...
"It feels so good to get an ACC win. We really needed that and knew it coming in. So now we're just going to try to go on a run. We're just trying to keep improving."

On the effect of the repeated close losses...
"I think we're improving every game. We're learning from the losses. I thought we just did a good job fighting. There's still a lot that we have to do better but overall it's just good to get a win."
