Wake Forest Head Coach Jeff Bzdelik
"This was a hard fought game obviously, and we expected that. We did some really good things and some things that we need to work on. Yielding 18 offensive rebounds and turning the ball over 18 times is certainly not going to win you a lot of basketball games so we obviously need to improve in those two areas. But we also did a lot of good things. To shoot the percentage that we did, to have six players in double digits, to have some really good efforts from some of our younger players was good. We will build on that and move forward."
On Codi Miller-McIntyre's injury and the switch over to Madison Jones during a critical moment...
"Codi has to come out, I think he just cramped up. He said later that he was fine, and I put him back in the game. A lot of energy was expended with these young players in the anticipation of their first game. A lot of nervous energy. But yes, that was a big shot by Madison. That was one of those as a coach that was good shot, bad shot and he knocked it in and did a good job.
On having the freshmen have better games than the experienced players...
"Well I think they are trying to do too much, and it is something that I have addressed with them. I think they are doing too much to shoulder the load and press too much. They need to just play the game within the game and trust the offense and the freshmen because the freshmen are doing fine. I think they are just pressing too much trying to shoulder the load. And when that happens, good things don't happen."
On the ability of the freshmen to stay calm and pull off this win...
"Well I just said look it, people can play. Radford is athletic and aggressive and they attack the offensive glass. They got up and into us. We have been playing like this in our preseason exhibition games and they have been competitive. What I like about our guys is their will to win. Hasn't always been pretty but they have always shown a great will to win. Obviously we need to play better."
Radford Head Coach Mike Jones
"First of all, I was proud of our guys' effort for the whole game. I just thought that we needed to play smarter. I thought we fouled a little bit too much. But overall, their effort was good. It's amazing with young guys how they get into it when things start going well. They really got some energy in the second half, but that's the kind of energy we've talked about having for 40 minutes. We didn't quite have it for 40 minutes. But when we did get it, I think they can compete with a team such as Wake Forest, which is extremely well coached by Jeff Bzdelik."
On Wake Forest's post play...
"I think that they are bigger and stronger on the inside than we are, and I don't think that they thought that was going to hurt them enough to pay that much attention to it. Fortunately for us, we were able to get it pretty deep. No matter who you get it that deep against, you're going to have some success. Our guys did a really good job of recognizing it. Our guys were posting deep and we were able to get it in there."
On the Radford 18 offensive rebounds...
"I think it is a lot of missed shots. We didn't shoot the ball very well. We had some good looks at times, but they just didn't go down. But it just comes down to effort, doing everything you can to prolong each possession. Our guys did a good job of getting in there and getting some offensive rebounds."
