CONWAY, S.C. - Behind a 22-point performance from Bryant Crawford, the Wake Forest men's basketball team erased a halftime deficit and extended its winning streak to six games with an 84-80 victory over Coastal Carolina Monday evening at the HTC Center.
The Demon Deacons (7-4) have won six straight games, their longest win streak since a seven-game stretch in 2009-10.
The Deacs improved to 5-1 in the all-time series between the Chanticleers (6-6) and with tonight's win, the Deacons became the first ACC school to win at the HTC Center, as Clemson lost there in 2012-13, the first season of the facility. Wake Forest also improved to 10-3 in non-conference road games under Danny Manning.
Bryant Crawford led all scorers with a season-high 22 points. It was his third 20-point game of the season and 19th of his career. Crawford also contributed six assists and four steals for the Deacs.
Doral Moore posted his second consecutive double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. It's his third career double-double, all of which have come this season.
Brandon Childress and Keyshawn Woods finished with 12 points each, their second- and fourth-straight double figure games, respectively.
After trailing 38-33 at halftime, the Deacons opened the second half hot and outscored the Chanticleers 13-5 on their way to take a 46-43 lead. The Deacs shot 86 percent from the floor, including 75 percent from behind the arc, early in the second half to build up an eight-point advantage. The Chanticleers took a three-point lead with under three minutes remaining, but a pair of free throws from Childress and a layup from Mitchell Wilbekin gave the Deacons a slight lead with two minutes to go. The Deacons sealed the game at the charity stripe, going 8-for-9 in the final two minutes to secure the 84-80 victory.
With the Chanticleers holding a steady lead in the opening minutes of the first half, the Demon Deacons used a 7-0 run to take their first lead of the night at 29-27 with just over four minutes to go. During the run, Crawford netted a layup followed by a triple from Childress to tie the game. Crawford then nailed another layup on the break off a long pass from Thompson to give the Deacs the lead and force the Chanticleers into a timeout. However, Coastal Carolina then used an 8-0 run of its own to build up a six-point lead with a minute to go. The Chanticleers shot 58 percent from the three-point line in the first half to take a 38-33 lead into halftime.
Tonight's game was the first time this season the Deacons earned the victory after trailing at halftime.
