Wake Forest Falls to Xavier, 83-75, in the Skip Prosser Classic
J.T. Terrell led Wake Forest with 27 points as Xavier earned an 83-75 victory over Wake Forest as part of the Skip Prosser Classic. Wake Forest (6-5) hosted the initial game of the series honoring the coach, winning in double overtime last season. For the rematch, the Demon Deacons tried to end the nation's second-longest home-court winning streak.
Xavier (7-5, 0-0 A-10) is coming off a 51-47 loss at Tennessee on Saturday in Knoxville. The Musketeers were handed their third straight loss after the Vols battled back from 10 down in the second half.
Xavier leads the all-time series with Wake Forest 2-1. The teams have split the previous two Skip Prosser Classic meetings with each winning at home. The series dates back to a 1999 Postseason NIT meeting in Cincinnati.
The Musketeers won the most recent meeting 85-73 on Dec. 18, 2010, at the Cintas Center. That evened the Classic after the Deacons posted a 96-92 double-overtime win over Xavier on Jan. 3, 2010.
Wake Forest will open their 18-game ACC schedule on Saturday, Jan. 5, at No. 1-ranked Duke. The game will be televised on ESPNU.
The Blue Devils are a perfect 12-0 this season entering their game at Davidson on Wednesday in Charlotte.
The Deacons will then host Virginia on Wednesday, Jan. 9, and Boston College on Saturday, Jan. 12.
