WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest sophomore guard Jeff Teague has been named one of 17 finalists for the 2009 Bob Cousy Award, which is presented to the nation's top collegiate point guard. The 17 finalists were selected from a pool of over sixty top candidates from NCAA Division I, II and III institutions across the country. The winner will be presented with the award at the NCAA Final Four in Detroit on April 6. Teague is one of three ACC point guards who are finalists for the award, along with Toney Douglas of Florida State and Ty Lawson of North Carolina. Teague is currently second in the ACC in scoring with 20.6 points per game. In ACC games only, he is third in the league in scoring with 22.3 points per game. The Indianapolis native has led Wake in scoring 13 times this season and has been in double digits in every contest. Dating back to last season, Teague has scored in double figures in 24 straight games and 27 of his past 28 games. In addition to scoring the ball himself, Teague has also helped his teammates out. He leads the Deacs with 72 assists, ranking him sixth in the ACC with 3.6 per game. Teague also ranks among the ACC leaders in steals (2.1, 2nd), minutes played (31.3, 8th), field goal percentage (.514, 8th) and free throw percentage (.819, 10th). The top vote-getter from the online poll will receive the "Fan Vote", representing one vote to be cast by the committee selecting the winner. The Cousy Award committee is comprised of Hall of Famers including Bob Cousy, Dean Smith and Jim Calhoun, as well as coaches from Divisions I, II and III, members of the media and additional college basketball experts and celebrities.
