KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Wake Forest sophomore forward John Collins was recognized by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Wednesday as the organization announced its 2016-17 All-District teams. Collins was named first team All-District 2 as voted upon by member coaches of the NABC.

Collins joined Luke Kennard of Duke, Justin Jackson of North Carolina, Donovan Mitchell of Louisville and Dwayne Bacon of Florida State on the first team for District 2, which consists of ACC schools. Bonzie Colson of Notre Dame, London Perrantes of Virginia, Dennis Smith, Jr. of NC State, Andrew White III of Syracuse and Joel Berry II of North Carolina were named to the second team.

Collins, who was also named first team All-District by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association and a second team All-American by Basketball Times, earned first-team All-ACC honors in 2016-17 while also being named the league’s Most Improved Player. He averaged 19.2 points and 9.8 rebounds per game, posting 17 double-doubles while leading the Demon Deacons to their first NCAA appearance since 2010. His 20.3 scoring average in ACC play led the league. Collins led the league in field goal percentage in both conference games (63.9%) and overall (62.2%). His streak of 12 consecutive 20-point games was the longest in ACC play since NC State’s T.J. Warren in 2014 and the longest by a Demon Deacon in over four decades. Collins led the ACC in 20-and-10 games with 10 overall and eight in ACC play.

Collins is the first Demon Deacon to be named All-District by the NABC since 2009-10 when Al-Farouq Aminu was named to the first team and Ish Smith was named to the second team.
