WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest head coach Danny Manning announced Wednesday (Apr. 12) that French center Olivier Sarr has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Demon Deacon program.

The 6-11 native of Toulouse is a four-star recruit and considered one of the top international players to come to college in 2017-18. He is currently at INSEP, France’s National Institute of Sport, and plays for club CFBB. He previously played for clubs TOAC and Bouscat.

Sarr competed for France at the 2016 FIBA U17 World Championships last summer in Spain. He averaged 4.4 points and 4.0 rebounds per game while leading the team with 1.4 blocks per game as the French finished sixth at the tournament. Sarr also participated in the U15 Friendship Tournament and at Adidas Next Generation events in Europe in 2014, 2015 and 2016.

“Olivier brings a level of athleticism and shot-blocking that will open some eyes,” said Manning. “He has a good offensive skill set, but he is still young and will need to develop and get stronger, like any freshman. We are really excited about his potential and what he will bring to our program. Olivier is a great kid who comes from a great family and is a great fit for us across the board.”

Sarr is the third member of Wake Forest’s 2017-18 freshman class, joining guard Chaundee Brown (Orlando, Fla.) and forward/guard Melo Eggleston (Upper Marlboro, Md.), who both signed with the Demon Deacons in the fall.
