Wake Forest's Skip Prosser Heading To Kuwait

May 4, 2007

ARLINGTON, Va. - Wake Forest head coach Skip Prosser, along with seven other prominent coaches, are heading to Kuwait May 22 as part of Operation Hardwood IV. Prosser and his colleagues will be on a military base for six days coaching teams of service members.

"I am thrilled and honored to be a part of it," Prosser said Friday morning. "People I have talked to in the military say that the soldiers really enjoy it."

The tour is sponsored by the USO and Armed Forces Entertainment (AFE). Equipment and uniforms for the tour are being provided by NIKE.

Joining Prosser on the trip will be Mike Brey (Notre Dame), Ed Conroy (The Citadel), Jim Crews (Army), Dennis Felton (Georgia), Fran Fraschilla (ESPN analyst and former St. John's head coach), Mike Lonergan (Vermont) and Reggie Minton (NABC).

"Dave Odom, Mike Izzo, Bob Lutz and Jay Bilas all gave the trip a ringing endorsement," Prosser said. "I am looking forward to going. Anything that we can do to support our troops is something I am proud and honored to be a part of."

Operation Hardwood tours have visited bases in Kuwait and Japan over the past two years, bringing coaches and service members together in a fun, competitive environment. It continues the USO and AFE tradition of bringing professional athletes and sports-related events to troops serving far from home. Last year, the USO - as part of its Operation Links tour - brought professional golfers to bases in Kuwait and Iraq to visit troops during Thanksgiving.

AT&T, Inc. is the official telecommunications sponsor of USO entertainment tours.
