WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest will host Illinois in the 2017 Big Ten/ACC Challenge as the matchups for this year’s event were announced on Thursday (June 8). The Demon Deacons will play the Fighting Illini at the LJVM Coliseum with the date, tip-off time and TV network to be announced later this summer.

The game will be the third meeting between Wake Forest and Illinois and the first matchup between the teams in Winston-Salem. The Demon Deacons posted a 75-73 overtime victory over the Illini in the 1998-99 Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Madison Square Garden. The last meeting in the series came in the 2004-05 ACC/Big Ten Challenge when No. 5 Illinois upset the top-ranked Deacs 91-73 in Champaign, Ill.

Wake Forest has an 11-5 all-time record in the challenge following a 65-58 loss at Northwestern last season. The Demon Deacons will play at home in the challenge for the first time since 2014-15.

The Demon Deacons are coming off a 19-14 campaign, including 9-9 in the ACC, and reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010. Illinois went 20-15 last season, including 8-10 in the Big Ten, reaching the quarterfinals of the NIT. The Fighting Illini will be led this season by new head coach Brad Underwood.
