Wake Forest Olympians Home | Olympic Basketball Site | Olympic Field Hockey Site By Nick Sebesta, Wake Forest Media Relations (@SIDeacons) WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The first week of the 2012 London Olympics is nearly in the books with several former Wake Forest student-athletes still in competition. Six former Demon Deacons, including three basketball and three field hockey players continued to play on the world stage. Men's Basketball Lithuania and Nigeria faced off, pitting two former Deacs against each other. Darius Songaila led the way for Lithuania with 12 points in the 72-53 victory. He also registered four rebounds and a steal. Al-Farouq Aminu tallied a double-double for the Nigerian squad with 12 points and 11 rebounds in the loss. Both Lithuania and Nigeria are 1-1 in Pool A play and are in a four-way tie for second behind the undefeated United States. Women's Field Hockey
Upcoming Events USA Field Hockey plays Austrailia on Thursday at 5:45 a.m. (EST) which will be broadcast live on the NBC Sports Network. Songaila and Lithuania face France on Thursday at 4 a.m. (EST) in the next qualification game. Paul and Aminu are in action on Thursday as well when the U.S. and Nigeria meet at 5:15 p.m. (EST) on NBC Sports Network. Former Deacon Brent LaRue will also compete in the first round of the 400m hurdles for Slovenia on Friday at 6:30 a.m. (EST).
