WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Following yesterday's ACC release of the 2012-13 conference schedule, Wake Forest has announced its non-conference opponents for the upcoming season.
Television broadcast designations have not been set yet and will be announced by the ACC at a later date. Current tip-off times are tentative and could change pending TV designations.
The Demon Deacons will open the 2012-13 season on Friday, Nov. 9, against Radford. The teams last met during the 2008-09 season with Wake Forest claiming an 83-61 win at home. The Deacons are 4-0 all-time against Radford.
Following its season opener, Wake Forest will compete in the 2012 Paradise Jam in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Deacons will open the tournament on Friday, Nov. 16, against Connecticut and then play either Iona or Quinnipiac on Nov. 17 or 18. Wake Forest will wrap up the tournament on Nov. 19 against George Mason, Mercer, New Mexico or UIC.
The Deacons will return home to host William & Mary in a Black Friday matchup on Nov. 23. Wake Forest will be looking to avenge a loss to the Tribe in the team's most recent meeting during the 2009-10 season. William & Mary upset Wake Forest, 78-68, on Nov. 28, marking the Deacons' first-ever November loss at the Joel Coliseum. Wake still leads the all-time series 33-12 dating back to the 1911-12 campaign.
Nebraska will visit the Joel on Nov. 27 for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The game, which was previously announced, will air on ESPNU at 9:15 p.m. The Deacons posted a dramatic 55-53 win over the Cornhuskers last season in Lincoln, as C.J. Harris scored the game-winning layup in the final seconds.
Wake Forest will play its first true road game of the season on Saturday, Dec. 1, at Richmond. The Deacons and Spiders have a longtime rivalry that dates back to the 1920-21 season. Wake Forest leads the series, 38-11, and has won 17 of the past 19 meetings.
The Deacons return home to host three games in early and mid-December beginning with High Point on Wednesday, Dec. 5. Wake Forest is 13-1 all-time against High Point, including an 87-83 win on the road last season.
Seton Hall will make the return trip to Winston-Salem after hosting Wake Forest last season. The Deacons and Pirates will meet on Saturday, Dec. 8. Seton Hall leads the series 4-2 after last year's 68-54 win over Wake.
Following a 10-day break for fall semester final exams, the Deacons will host Furman on Tuesday, Dec. 18. Wake Forest and Furman have not met on the hardwood since the 1995-96 season in Winston-Salem. The Deacons are 14-7 all-time against the Paladins with the series dating back to 1927.
Wake Forest will get a preview of the Greensboro Coliseum, site of the 2013 ACC Tournament, when the Deacons play at Triad-rival UNC Greensboro on Saturday, Dec. 22. Wake is 6-0 all-time against UNCG, which includes a win in Greensboro in 2009-10.
The Deacons will enjoy a 10-day break for the holidays before wrapping up their non-conference slate against Xavier in the Skip Prosser Classic on Wednesday, Jan. 2. The teams split the first two Classic meetings, each winning at home. Wake Forest posted a 96-92 double-overtime defeat of Xavier in 2009-10.
Wake Forest will play one exhibition game prior to the regular season when the Deacons host Rollins College on Friday, Nov. 2. The teams actually met six times during the regular season from 1974-86 with the Deacons winning all six matchups. Five of the meetings came in Winston-Salem and one (1982-83) in Winter Park, Fla.
