Meet the Flyers
Dayton (2-1) is coming off a 74-49 dismantling of UNC Wilmington at home on Saturday. Chris Johnson led the Flyers with 19 points.
The Flyers opened the season with an 87-58 win over Western Illinois on Nov. 12 before falling 72-67 in overtime at Miami (Ohio) on Nov. 15.
Head coach Archie Miller is in his first season at the helm of the Dayton program. Miller is no stranger to the ACC, as he played at NC State from 1998-2002. Miller also was an assistant on the Wolfpack staff under Herb Sendek for three seasons.
Wake Forest is 2-1 all-time against Dayton with the last meeting coming in 1960. The teams met twice that season: the Deacons posted a 61-50 win at the Dixie Classic in Raleigh in late December before falling 62-45 at Dayton in a matchup of top 20-ranked teams a month later.
The Deacons defeated the Flyers, 66-57, in their first-ever meeting on Feb. 28, 1959, in Wake Forest's regular season finale in Winston-Salem.
Wake Forest will face either Arizona State or Fairfield on Friday. The winner's bracket game will tip off at 5 p.m. on ESPN2, while the consolation bracket game will tip at 7:30 on ESPN2.
Wake Forest has never faced Arizona State (though they were both at the 76 Classic in Anaheim in 2008-09) and is 3-0 against Fairfield. The Deacons defeated Fairfield, 85-60, in the 2007-08 season opener at the Joel.
