Bobby Kennedy

Position:
Running Backs Coach

Success has followed Bobby Kennedy throughout a young career as an assistant coach, including his tenure at Wake Forest. Kennedy enters his sixth season on coach Jim Caldwell's staff, including his second year as running backs coach.

In his initial season coaching the Demon Deacon backfield last year, Wake Forest employed a potent running game. Leading the way was senior Morgan Kane, who rushed for 1,161 yards, 10 touchdowns and finished his career as the third-leading rusher in school history.

From 1995-98, Kennedy tutored the Deacon wide receivers, including Desmond Clark, the leading receiver in ACC history and the school's single season receiving leader, and Jammie Deese, who ranked second in the conference in receiving in 1998.

This season, Kennedy will direct a ground-oriented attack which features a large group of young tailbacks and Ovie Mughelli, one of the nation's top blocking fullbacks.

Prior to coming to Wake Forest in 1995, Kennedy coached wide receivers at Wyoming. There he tutored All-Americans Ryan Yarborough, who was the nation's second-leading receiver in 1993, and Marcus Harris, who led the nation in receiving yards per game in 1994. Kennedy was tight ends coach at Penn State in 1992 where he worked with All-Americans Troy Drayton and Kyle Brady, a first-round draft choice by the New York Jets.

He coached in the '92 Blockbuster Bowl with Penn State, the '93 Copper Bowl with Wyoming and the '99 Aloha Bowl with WFU after enjoying two earlier postseason trips as a graduate assistant at Illinois.

A 1989 graduate of Northern Colorado, Kennedy began his coaching career on the high school level in his hometown of Boulder (at Boulder High School). He entered the collegiate coaching ranks while earning a graduate degree at Illinois.

Kennedy and his wife, LaShonda, were wed in July 1998.
