Ejiofor Named to Bednarik Award Preseason Watch List

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest defensive end Duke Ejiofor has been named to the Bednarik Award preseason watch list as announced by the Maxwell Football Club.

Ejiofor, a 6-4, 270-pound redshirt senior from Houston, Texas (Alief Taylor) is a two-year starter for Wake Forest who will challenge to become the school’s all-time leader in career sacks. Ejiofor has 17 career sacks and currently ranks fifth in school history. Mike McCrary (1989-92) holds the school record with 30 sacks.

A consensus third team All-ACC selection in 2016, Ejiofor led the Deacons with 10.5 sacks and was second on the team with 17 tackles for loss. He had a career-best seven tackles and three sacks in a Sept. 10 win over Duke that earned Ejiofor the ACC Defensive Lineman of the Week award.

Chuck Bednarik was considered one of the hardest hitters in football history and is the last National Football League player to play on both sides of the ball every game as a center and linebacker. The Bednarik Award honors the former Philadelphia Eagle and is awarded annually to the nation’s top college defensive player by the Maxwell Football Club.
