Defense Looks Sharp in Second Scrimmage

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest competed in its second intrasquad scrimmage of the preseason on Tuesday morning at BB&T Field, as the defense excelled for much of the contest.
The Demon Deacon defense held the offense scoreless during the first 13 possessions before the offense broke through and put seven points on the board in each of its final two drives of the day.
The defense recorded nine tackles for loss, including five sacks during the scrimmage. Zach Thompson led the way with two sacks, while Nikita Whitlock, Kris Redding and Joey Ehrmann all recorded one sack apiece.
For the second straight scrimmage, Tyler Jackson led the way on the ground with 44 yards on nine carries. Orville Reynolds rushed the ball just five times but gained 26 yards, including an 18-yard scamper.
Jackson carried the load on the first scoring drive of the day, touching the ball eight times on the 11-play drive. He had seven carries for 34 yards on the drive and caught a pass from Patrick Thompson for 11 yards.
Thompson also completed an 11-yard pass to Brad Idzik and capped off the drive with an 18-yard strike for the touchdown.
The offense followed up with another scoring drive to end the day, as Reynolds carried the ball twice for 24 yards, and Tanner Price went 4-for-7 for 36 yards. Ragland caught his second touchdown pass of the day on a five yard completion from Price.
Price ended the day by going 8-for-18 for 78 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
The Demon Deacons will have another double session tomorrow with the morning practice scheduled for 9:45 at the Doc Martin Practice Complex. The team's final scrimmage will Saturday at 6 p.m. at BB&T Field.
