Former Wake Forest quarterback Jay Venuto has been named to represent the Demon Deacons as an ACC Legend for 2013. The legends will be honored during the ACC's 9th Annual Dr Pepper Championship Game weekend on Dec. 6-7 in Charlotte.
Venuto, a member of the Wake Forest Sports Hall of Fame, was the Deacon starter in 1979 and 1980. As a junior, he led Wake Forest to a dream season as the Demon Deacons defeated No. 12 Georgia in Athens, No.14 North Carolina in Chapel Hill and No. 13 Auburn at home en route to an 8-4 season and a berth in the Tangerine Bowl for Coach John Mackovic. That year, Venuto led the ACC in total offense, broke six ACC records including total offense, pass attempts, pass completions, passing yards and total plays, and also set the single game mark with 28 completions against East Carolina. For his efforts, he was named the ACC Player of the Year.
A first team All-ACC selection in 1979 and 1980, he led the league in total offense and passing efficiency as a senior.
A native of Salem, NJ, Venuto now resides in Newfield, NY.
