Football Game Notes - Wake Forest vs. Maryland

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest welcomes in the Maryland Terrapins its 2009 Homecoming game on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at BB&T Field. The game is available on the Wake Forest ISP Radio Network and will also be broadcast online via ESPN360.com.
The Deacons come in at 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the ACC. Wake Forest is coming off a 30-24 defeat of rival NC State last Saturday in Winston-Salem. QB Riley Skinner led the Deacs to victory, passing for 361 yards and three touchdowns. The Deacon defense was impressive as well, forcing three NC State turnovers on the day.
The Terrapins come to town sporting a record of 2-3 overall and 1-0 in the ACC. Maryland opened conference play last weekend with a 24-21 defeat of Clemson in College Park. QB Chris Turner passed for two touchdowns, and Maryland overcame two late missed field goals by Clemson to hold on for the victory.
Maryland holds a 41-15-1 advantage in the all-time series with Wake Forest that dates back to 1917. The Deacons have taken two of the past three from the Terps including the last meeting at BB&T Field in 2007.
Quickie Notes
- WR Marshall Williams has 18 catches for 252 yards and three touchdowns over the past two games. Williams has caught at least one touchdown in three straight games.
- Wake Forest ranks third in the ACC in passing offense fourth in the league in rushing offense. The Deacons are the only team to rank in the top five of the ACC in both categories.
Next Up...
Wake Forest will hit the road for back-to-back games away from the friendly confines of BB&T Field. The Deacons will play at Clemson next Saturday at noon. The game will be televised by Raycom. Wake then travels to non-conference foe Navy the following Saturday for a 3:30 showdown with the Midshipmen. The Navy game, which is set to air on CBS College Sports, will be a re-match of the 2008 EagleBank Bowl.
