WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest senior defensive end Wendell Dunn has been named as one of six finalists for the eighth annual Pop Warner College Football Award. Presented by Pop Warner Little Scholars, the award recognizes a graduating senior who has made a difference on the field, in the classroom and in his community, which are attributes Pop Warner emphasizes with its young scholar-athletes.

Wake Forest linebacker Brandon Chubb won the award in 2015.

Dunn, a senior from Miami, Fla. (Palmetto) is a finalist along with Miami wide receiver Braxton Berrios, Stanford offensive lineman David Bright, Auburn kicker Daniel Carlson, Virginia linebacker Micah Kiser and Notre Dame linebacker Drue Tranquill.

Dunn has started 47 consecutive games since the start of the 2014 season and is just two games shy of tying the career record of 49. He has collected 142 total tackles, 25.5 tackles for loss and 6.0 sacks. A two-year captain, Dunn in 2017 has 36 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss and a pair of sacks to go with five quarterback hurries.

The Pop Warner College Football Award will be presented December 7 at the annual Pop Warner Super Bowl at Walt Disney World's ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla. The inaugural award was presented to former University of Nebraska defensive back Prince Amukamara. Last year's winner was former Ole Miss tight end and current New York Giant Evan Engram.

"One of the things that makes college football so special is the collection of outstanding student-athletes who excel on and off the field as they represent themselves, their schools and their communities with distinction," said Jon Butler, executive director of Pop Warner Little Scholars. "The Pop Warner College Football Award honors one student-athlete whose play, commitment to academics and service to the community represents the ideals of the sport. This year we're proud of an extraordinary group of finalists from some of the nation's finest universities."
