Feb. 22, 2010 HILTON HEAD, SC - Sophomore Lee Bedford and freshman Evan Beck each carded an even-par round of 72 to lead the Wake Forest men's golf team on a rainy opening day at the Wexford Intercollegiate at the Wexford Plantation in Hilton Head, SC. As a team, the Demon Deacons carded a round of 5-over 293 and are currently second with a round to play. Host Francis Marion posted a 1-over 289 and holds the first round lead. Rain swept through the Hilton Head Island area around noon and delayed the action for over three hours. The tournament was originally scheduled for 54-holes with 36-holes being played on Monday. But the rain delay has shortened the event to just a 36-hole affair. The second and final round will be played Tuesday morning. Bedford and Beck led the way for Wake with rounds of 72. The duo will begin the second round tied for eighth as they trail John Skeadas (Davidson), Ciaran McKenna (Francis Marion) and Ben Westley (DePaul) by two shots. Walker Cup member Brendan Gielow opened with a round of 1-over 73 and sophomore Daniel Meggs posted an opening round 76. Freshman Charlie Harrison rounded out the Deacons scorers with a 79. The weather forecast is much more favorable for Tuesday as temperatures are expected to be in the mid-60s with only a 10 percent chance of rain.
