HILTON HEAD, SC - Behind medalist Lee Bedford, the Wake Forest men's golf team claimed its first team title of the season as the Demon Deacons came back to win the Wexford Intercollegiate by one shot over host Francis Marion.

The win was the first for the team since winning the General Hackler Championships last March in Myrtle Beach.

After carding an even-par 72 in the opening round, Bedford played a beautiful final round, posting a 2-under 70 and tying Jackson Taylor of Davidson at 2-under for the 36-holes. The duo shared medalist honors. It was Bedford's first collegiate victory.

Senior Brendan Gielow followed his opening round 73 with a solid 72 on Tuesday to post another top-10 finish. His tied for 10th finish was his fourth top-10 in five events this year.

Evan Beck fired a final round 75 to finish the tournament at 3-over par and tied for 15th. Fellow freshman Charlie Harrison rebounded from a tough opening round to post a solid final round 73 and finished tied for 41st.

Sophomore Daniel Meggs rounded out the Deacon-five this week with a final round 78 to finish tied for 48th.

The Deacs came into the second round trailing host Francis Marion by four shots after shooting a 293 on Monday. Wake's 290 in the final round was enough to clip the hosts by one shot.

This is the second-straight tournament this spring that Wake has had the individual medalist. Gielow birdied two of his final three holes to win the JU Invitational earlier this month at the TPC of Sawgrass Stadium Course.

Wake will return to action next Monday as it travels to Wilmington, NC, for the Seahawk Intercollegiate at the Landfall Country Club. The first two rounds are scheduled for Monday, March 1, with the final round scheduled for Tuesday, March 2.
