Men's Golf In Seventh Place After Day One Of Morris Williams Intercolegiate

AUSTIN, Texas - The Wake Forest men's golf team rebounded from a tough opening round at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate with a round of 290 and is in seventh place through 36 holes.

The Deacs carded a round of 300 in the morning but bounced-back with a 290 and are 22-over par and in seventh place in the 12-team field.

Individually, senior Lee Bedford shook-off an opening round 77 and carded a 4-under 67 in the afternoon. He made six birdies in his round of 67, including birdying the final four holes. He is 2-over for the tournament and tied for 20th.

Sophomore Thomas Birdsey made a total of 31 pars in his 36 holes on Friday en route to posting rounds of 74-72. He is currently tied for 27th at 4-over par.

Juniors Evan Beck and Charlie Harrison each finished with matching 36-hole scores of 8-over 150 and are tied for 46th. Beck opened with a 73 but came in with a 77 in the afternoon while Harrison carded rounds of 76-74.

Freshman Brandon Ng, who is playing as an individual this week, shot an 81 in the morning but had a solid round of 3-over 74 in the afternoon. Fellow freshman Cyrus Stewart had a bit of a tough day, finishing with rounds of 77 and 82.

Texas played well on its home course and has opened-up a 6-shot lead through two rounds. The Longhorns carded rounds of 281 and 280 and are 7-under par. New Mexico is in second place at 1-under and Texas A&M is third at 3-over.

Geoff Shaw of Texas A&M, who is also playing as an individual this week, carded a 6-under 65 in the opening round and followed it the an even-par 71, to lead the event at 6-under par. He has a two-shot lead over teammate Cameron Peck and a three-shot lead over a trio of Longhorns.

The Deacons will be in the final wave off the back nine for Saturday's final round. Wake is paired with College of Charleston and Sam Houston State and will start at 9:18 CST. Golfstat.com will have live scoring of the final round.
