COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Wake Forest men’s golf team continued play Tuesday at the NCAA Columbus Regional with the second round at Ohio State’s Scarlet Course. The Demon Deacons remained in seventh place at 27-over after shooting 12-over during the second round.

The top five teams at the regional will advance to the NCAA Championships. Oklahoma State is the 36-hole leader at 9-under, followed by Illinois at 6-under. UNLV is in third at 7-over, Northwestern is in fourth at 15-over and Texas Tech currently holds the fifth and final qualifying spot at 17-over. Penn State is sixth at 20-over, followed by the Demon Deacons at 27-over.

“We have a resilient group and we will need a great round tomorrow,” said head coach Jerry Haas. “We are 10 shots out of fifth and 12 shots out of fourth, so it can be done. We had two guys play well today, but we will need all five guys to play well tomorrow.”

Paul McBride led the Demon Deacons Tuesday with a 1-under round of 70, while Parker Gillam carded an even par 71. Eric Bae shot a 6-over 77 as Cameron Young and Lee Detmer each shot a 7-over 78 during the second round.

The NCAA Columbus Regional concludes Wednesday at the Scarlet Course. Due to inclement weather on Tuesday, four teams will conclude second round play on Wednesday morning before the final round begins.
