Harrison's 69 Leads Deacons On Day 2 Of Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic
Senior Charlie Harrison fired a second round 3-under 69 to lead the Wake Forest men's golf in the second round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic at The Farm Golf Club. Behind Harrison, the Demon Deacons shot a 2-under 286 and are in sixth place in the 15-team field. Through 36-holes, the Deacs are 2-under par. Harrison made four birdies in his round on Saturday. Through two rounds, Harrison has made a total of 10 birdies and is 3-under for the tournament. He'll start the final round in a tie for 11th. Junior Beau Cutts, who opened the tournament with a career-low tying round of 71 on Friday, fired a second-straight 71 on Saturday. He made 15 pars on the day to go along with a pair of birdies. Cutts is 2-under for the weekend and tied for 14th. Juniors John Varol and Thomas Birdsey both carded rounds of 1-over 73 on Saturday. Varol made the Deacons' first eagle of the season on the par-5 11th and is now 1-over for the event. Birdsey carded his second-straight 73 and is 2-over and tied for 30th. Freshman Grayson Murray played well on Saturday, making three birdies en route to a 2-over 74. Defending national champion Texas shot the round of the day with a remarkable 22-under 266. The Longhorns have a three-shot lead over first round leader Georgia. UT is 17-under par while Georgia is 14-under. Individually, Texas' Brandon Stone made nine birdies and no bogeys to post a sensational round of 9-under 63. He is 12-under for the tournament and has a one-shot lead over Georgia's T.J. Mitchell. Wake Forest is paired with Clemson and Alabama for the final round and will start in the second wave off the front nine at 8:45 a.m. Golfstat.com will have live scoring of the final round.
