Deacs Climb to Sixth at Nike Golf Collegiate

NORTH PLAINS, Ore. – The Wake Forest men’s golf team continued play Monday at the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Course. The Demon Deacons shot a 5-under 279 during the second round to climb to sixth place at 9-under through 36 holes.

Stanford is the leader after two rounds at 21-under, followed by Oklahoma at 19-under. Duke and Florida are tied for third at 13-under, followed by Vanderbilt at 11-under and the Demon Deacons.

“There is a good score to be had out there on this course,” said head coach Jerry Haas. “The guys are really battling despite not playing our best. We have a chance to have a good finish tomorrow. Let’s shoot the low round of the day tomorrow and see what happens.”

Will Zalatoris shot a 2-under 69 during Monday’s second round to finish the day at 5-under. He is tied for ninth place on the individual leaderboard, six shots off the lead. Cameron Young is also in the individual top-15 after shooting a 1-over 72 on Monday to finish the day T-13th at 4-under.

Eric Bae had the low round of the day for the Demon Deacons, shooting a 3-under 68, moving to 1-under for the tournament. Paul McBride was also under par during the second round, shooting a 1-under 70 to finish the day 1-over. Marco Steyn rounded out the lineup with a second-round 73.



Closer to home, several Demon Deacons began play as individuals at the Hummingbird Intercollegiate at Sapphire Valley. Parker Gillam is T-9th after a 2-under 69, while Lee Detmer is T-11th after a 1-under 70.

The Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational concludes Tuesday at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club.
