NORTH PLAINS, Ore. – The Wake Forest men’s golf team concluded play Tuesday at the Nike Golf Collegiate Invitational at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Course. The Demon Deacons shot a 1-under 283 during the final round to finish tied for sixth place at 10-under.

The Demon Deacons finished tied with USC at 10-under. Oklahoma won the tournament at 27-under, posting a three-shot win over runner-up Stanford (24-under). Vanderbilt was third at 18-under, followed by Clemson (15-under) and Florida (11-under).

“We never really got things going during any of the three rounds,” said head coach Jerry Haas. “On the other hand, the guys never quit and battled to the end. Play was a little more difficult today as the wind was stronger. I am always proud of this group and I’m proud to be the golf coach at Wake Forest. We are 30-5-1 through three events, so it has been an excellent start to the season. We have two more events coming up to finish the semester strong.”

Will Zalatoris and Cameron Young each shot even par 71 during Tuesday’s round to secure top-20 finishes. Zalatoris was T-14th at 5-under, while Young was T-18th at 4-under.

Paul McBride had the low round of the day for Wake Forest, shooting a 3-under 68 to finish T-23rd at 2-under. Marco Steyn posted a 2-over 73 in the final round to finish at 8-over, while Eric Bae shot a final round 75 to finish at 3-over.

Also on Tuesday, a pair of Demon Deacons posted top-10 finishes at the Hummingbird Intercollegiate, playing as individuals at Sapphire Valley Country Club. Lee Detmer finished T-6th at 3-under, while Parker Gillam was 9th at 1-under.

The Demon Deacons will take two weeks off before returning to action Oct. 20-22 with the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate.
