Beck Shoots 2-under 70 On Tough Day At US Collegiate

ALPHARETTA, Ga. - Wake Forest senior All-American Evan Beck rebounded from an opening round 76 to post a round of 2-under 70 in tough conditions Saturday at the US Collegiate Championship at the Golf Club of Georgia.
Beck moved from a tie for 39th to start the day into a tie for 15th with a round to play. Beck made a total of four birdies in his round, including one on the closing par-5 18th.
As a team, the Demon Deacons posted a 15-over 303, their highest round of the year, and slipped from a tie for second to a tie for seventh. Wake Forest is 18-over for the tournament and trails leader UCLA, who is a 4-over par. The Bruins are looking for their second-straight win at the USCC.
Freshman Davis Womble continued his solid play, posting a round of 3-over 75. That round followed an opening 71 and Womble is in a tied with Beck for 15th at 2-over par heading into Sunday.
Junior Thomas Birdsey got off to a rough start on Saturday but he birdied two of his final six holes to card a 4-over 76. Birdsey is 4-over for the weekend and tied for 26th.
Senior Charlie Harrison and freshman Grayson Murray matched each other with opening round 74s and the two also matched each other with second round 82s on Saturday. The duo is tied for 66th with a round to go.
Oklahoma State's Taylor Gooch, the 18-hole leader, continues to lead after a 1-under 71. Gooch has a two-shot lead on a pair of players.
The final round is set to begin at 8:40 a.m. Sunday morning off. Golfstat.com will have live scoring of the final round.
