PRINCEVILLE, Hawaii – The fifth-ranked Wake Forest men’s golf team concluded the fall portion of its schedule Tuesday with the final round of the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational on the Hawaiian island of Kauai. The Demon Deacons shot 9-under during the final round to finish fifth at 33-under.

Louisville won the event with a total of 56-under par. San Diego State was the runner-up at 47-under, followed by Missouri (40-under), UCLA (37-under) and the Demon Deacons.

“Shooting 33-under is very good golf and I thought we played very well today” said head coach Jerry Haas. “The guys always impress me with how they hang in there and today was no different. Paul birdied his last hole, Eric eagled his last hole, Cameron shot 65 and Lee made a great par save on his last hole in the pouring rain. It capped a pretty good fall season where we posted a 61-11-1 record.”

Cameron Young led Wake Forest with a 7-under final-round 65. He finished the tournament T-8th at 12-under. Marco Steyn posted a 70 on Tuesday to finish the event at 6-under. Lee Detmer and Paul McBride each had a final round 72 to finish 5-under and 4-under, respectively. Eric Bae finished 1-under after a final round 75.

Parker Gillam, playing as an individual, shot a final-round 70 to finish the event in 12th place at 10-under.

The Demon Deacons will begin the spring portion of their schedule in February with the All-American Intercollegiate in suburban Houston.
