Brendan Gielow Named ACC Men's Golfer Of The Month

March 1, 2010

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Senior Brendan Gielow has been named the ACC Men's Golfer of the Month for the month of February as announced by the ACC Office on Monday.

Gielow started the month by claiming his second collegiate victory at the Jacksonville Invitational. Two weeks later, he would help lead Wake Forest to a team title at the Wexford Intercollegiate by finishing tied for 10th.

The 2009 Walker Cup member birdied two out of his final three holes at the famed TPC of Sawgrass Stadium Course to regain the lead at the JU Invite and win his first event of the year. Gielow took the 36-hole lead after a tremendous 3-under 69 in round two which was played mostly in the rain. He then slipped back to a tie for the lead through 15 holes of the final round before a nice up-and-down birdie at the par-5 16th gave him a one-shot and a clutch birdie at the famed par-3 17th pushed his cushion to two.

At the Wexford Intercollegiate, Gielow opened with a round of 1-over 73 as the Deacs trailed host Francis Marion by four shots with a round to play. He then posted a final round of even-par 72 to help Wake close the gap and eventually overtake FMU by one shot to claim its first team title of the season.

Gielow, who is on the 2010 Ben Hogan Award Watch List, averaged 72.6 strokes per round over five tournament rounds and made a total of 14 birdies and one eagle in the month. He has played in five tournaments so far this season and has finished no worse than tied for 14th with four top-10 finishes.

Gielow and the rest of the Demon Deacons are in action Monday and Tuesday, March 1-2, at the Seahawk Invitational in Wilmington, NC. The tournament is being played at the Landfall Country Club, which is also the site of the 2010 Women's NCAA Championship.
