Sept. 9, 2010 Click the video for a preview of the 2010-11 season with Coach Haas. The tournament features an extremely strong field as all 12 teams finished last season ranked in the top-50 of the Golfweek Sagarin ratings. Five of the teams are ranked in this year's NGCA/Golf World preseason top-25. The first round will be played on Friday, Sept. 10 and the 54-hole event will wrap-up on Sunday. The Demon Deacons lineup for the weekend will include senior Justin Bryant, juniors Lee Bedford and Daniel Meggs as well as sophomores Evan Beck and Charlie Harrison. Bedford and Meggs are both playing in the event for the third-straight season as the pair made their college debuts at the Carpet Capital Classic two years ago. Last year, Bedford and Meggs both finished tied for 17th at 1-over par. Bryant will be playing in his first tournament for the team since carding a 73 in the final round of the VCU Shootout last September. The St. Louis, Mo., native had a strong summer and should provide a lift for Deacs this fall. Beck had perhaps the best summer of any Deacon. He won the Virginia State Open at 20-under par which tied the tournament record. Earlier in the summer, he fired four sub-70 rounds (68-67-66-68) at the 54th Eastern Amateur to finish in a tie for second. Beck made his collegiate debut at the Carpet Capital last season and finished tied for 20th after rounds of 71-75-72=218 (+2). Harrison played in six tournaments as a freshman last season and averaged 76.8 in those events. This summer, he qualified for the North & South Amateur at Pinehurst No. 2 and the advanced to the match play. This will be his first time playing at The Farm. The Deacons are making their 11th appearance at the Carpet Capital this weekend. Wake finished tied for sixth a year ago, which was its best finish since taking second in 2004 and third in 2001. Georgia is the top-ranked team in the field at No. 3. The Bulldogs are followed by 2010 ACC Champion Georgia Tech at No. 10 and Alabama at No. 15. Fellow ACC-foe Clemson is ranked No. 17 in the preseason poll while Texas Tech slides in at No. 21. The other teams in the field are Auburn, Chattanooga, East Tennessee State, Mississippi, South Carolina and Tennessee. The weather forecast looks favorable for the weekend with temperatures expected around 90 degrees with just a slight chance of afternoon showers each day.
