DURHAM, N.C. - Wake Forest men's golf coach Jerry Haas won the Carolinas Section PGA Championship on Thursday after carding a final round 72. He now advances to next summer's PGA Professional National Championship where he can earn a spot in the 2015 PGA Championship.

Haas opened the tournament at the Duke University Golf Club with a stellar 5-under 67 on Tuesday. That was one of just two rounds in the 60s on the day. He then followed that with a grinding even-par 72 on Wednesday to take a two-shot lead into the final round.

On Thursday, Haas bogeyed his first three holes of the day to relinquish the lead but quickly rebounded with three birdies in the next four holes to grab the lead right back. He held a couple of shot lead for most of the back nine until he bogeyed No. 15. Chris Harlow then birdied No. 16 and the two were tied. But Haas also birdied the par-4 16th to regain the lead and solid pars on the final two holes gave him a two-shot victory at 5-under par.

Haas is now the first player to win the Carolinas PGA Section Championship as well as the Carolinas PGA Senior Section Championship in the same season. Both victories earn him trips to the upcoming PGA Professionals and PGA Senior Championships in which him have a chance to earn a spot in both the 2015 PGA and Senior PGA Championships.

The victory also earns Haas a spot in either the 2015 Wachovia Championship in Charlotte or the 2015 Wyndham Championship in Greensboro.
