Wake Forest Tournament History:

  • The Deacons are making their 16th straight appearance at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate.
  • In the last 15 years, a Wake Forest individual has finished in the top-5 nine times, including back-to-back victories by Bill Haas in 2002 and 2003.
  • As a team, the Deacons won the event in 2002 with three top-10 finishers, but have only finished in the top-5 six times in 15 tries.
  • Last year, the Demon Deacons finished at 2-under par as a team and was tied for sixth. Senior Evan Beck carded rounds of 70-69-69 to finish runner-up at 8-under par.

    Wake Forest Notes:

  • Senior Thomas Birdsey led the team in the first event of the year at the Carpet Capital with a 12th place finish after rounds of 77-70-69.
  • That was Birdsey's first back-to-back rounds under-par since the Golfweek Conference Challenge last season.
  • The Deacons finished seventh in the season-opening Carpet Capital after a final round 4-under 284.
  • The Deacs defeated SMU at the Payne Stewart Invitational at Pinehurst No. 2, winning both the stroke play and match play portions of the event.
  • Wake Forest started three freshmen at the season-opening Carpet Capital in Clancy Waugh, Danny Guise and Woody Woodward.
  • That was the first time since 1999 that three Demon Deacon freshmen started the first event.
  • Ben Balter is making his Demon Deacon debut this week.
  • Birdsey and freshman Ben Balter both qualified for the U.S. Amateur this summer.
