The Deacons out-shot the Seahawks 14-10 in the contest. Hayden Partain recorded a team-high six shots while Andreu Cases Mundet made one save in goal. Fellow freshman Kyle Barkett had three saves in the second half. "I thought it was a pretty good start," said head coach Bobby Muuss. "We moved the ball pretty well and got a lot of guys some good experience. A little bit of a tale of two halves and it was a chippy game". Wake Forest had several chances late in the game including a flurry of shots from Partain but were stopped by the UNCW defense. Wake Forest opens the regular season on Friday, August 26, against Saint Louis. "I expect to play a good, well-coached team in Saint Louis," said Muuss. "I expect us to be fresher and have more energy." Friday's game will kickoff at 7 p.m. at Spry Stadium.
