WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The No. 2 Wake Forest men's soccer team grabbed its third conference win of the season on Saturday night, defeating the NC State Wolfpack 4-0 at Spry Stadium.
With the win Deacons improved to 9-0-2 and 3-0-1 in the ACC while the Pack is now 4-5-3 and 0-3-1.
Zack Schilawski netted the game-winner in the 16th minute, grabbing a cross from Cody Arnoux to net a sweeping shot from the left top corner of the penalty area that tucked into the top right corner of NC State goal.
Arnoux and Corben Bone set up Schilawski for his second shot of the night in the 22nd minute, breaking through the Wolfpack defense to fire a dead center missile from the 15-yard mark.
Former ACC Player of the Week Arnoux registered two assists at the contest and netted Wake's third goal of the night. Arnoux now stands as Wake's point leader with seven goals and four assists for 18 points total.
The game is the second consecutive match where Deacons logged first career goals, as senior Pat Phelan logged his first goals with Wake in Tuesday's 5-0 win over Appalachian State.
The Saturday night game proved to be extremely aggressive as four yellow cards were assigned during the first half, three for the Wolfpack and one for Wake freshman Ike Opara. NC State's Stanley Mathurin received his second yellow card of the game and fifth for the season in the second half, causing the Pack to play with a man down for the rest of the contest.
The Demon Deacons will kick-off a four-match road stretch on Tuesday, facing UNC-Greensboro in Greensboro at 7 p.m.
