GREENSBORO, N.C. - The No. 1 Demon Deacons defeated the UNC Greensboro Spartans 8-0 Tuesday night, marking the Demon Deacons' highest margin of victory since 2002.

The game was Wake's highest margin of victory since the Deacons defeated Georgia Southern 8-0 on November 9, 2002. The loss was the UNCG's worst since 1977, when UNC Wilmington defeated the Spartans 10-0.

The Deacon win comes at heels of back-to-back blowouts, featuring a 5-0 win over Appalachian State last Tuesday and a 4-0 win over NC State on Saturday.

Deacon goals were scored by Cody Arnoux, Jaime Franks, Lyle Adams, Michael Lahoud, Marcus Tracy and Alimer Gonzalez. All together, 23 Demon Deacons saw playing time in the match, including goalkeeper Austin Chelko who made his career debut in the 85th minute.

The Demon Deacons started with a bang, scoring three goals in a three minute period beginning at the 12 minute mark.

Cody Arnoux struck first for WFU, taking a strike from 10-yards after fellow sophomore Zack Schilawski set him up with the cross.

90 seconds later Arnoux set junior Jamie Franks up for his first goal of the season. Franks' strike from 15 yards out bounced off the right post and into the left pocket of the net. The game was Franks' first start since the Maryland match on September 29.

Arnoux continued to light up the UNCG Soccer Stadium, capitalizing on a free kick from Pat Phelan in the 15th minute. Arnoux stripped the ball from three Spartan defenders to take the shot from just outside the goal area, putting the Deacons up 3-0.

In the 26th minute junior Lyle Adams netted pass from Julian Valentin following a corner kick by Sam Cronin. The goal was Adams' first of the season, while the assist was co-captain Valentin's first for the year.

With a 4-0 advantage, Mike Lahoud converted on a penalty kick following a Spartan foul on WFU midfielder Austin da Luz. The kick put the Deacons up 5-0 heading into the halftime break.

Akira Fitzgerald subbed in for WFU senior goalkeeper Brian Edwards in the second half and the Spartans wasted no time testing the sophomore at the net. UNCG sophomore midfielder Corey Maret took the first Spartan shot of the half in the 49th minute, but Fitzgerald jumped to the center to clear the ball for his first save of the night.

Michael Lahoud had his second goal the night and the season in the 54th minute, with an assist from Pat Phelan. Marcus Tracy followed with a goal in the 56th minute, while senior Alimer Gonzalez had his first career goal in the 90th minute to set the Deacon win at 8-0.

The Deacons will continue with the second game of their four match road swing on Friday, facing the No. 8 Duke Blue Devils in Durham, N.C.
