CONWAY, S.C. - The No. 1 Wake Forest men's soccer team defeated Coastal Carolina 5-0 in Conway on Tuesday night.
The Demon Deacons (12-0-2) are now 25-0 in scoring through the last five contests and lead the nation in scoring offense, shutout percentage and W-L-T percentage.
Wake goalkeeper Brian Edwards had a season high five saves and logged a rare goalkeeper assist in Tuesday's match. Edwards now stands at 1071 minutes for the year with a 10-0-1 record, including eight shutouts and 35 saves.
Lyle Adams netted the first goal of the night from a corner kick by midfielder Sam Cronin in the 7th minute. Marcus Tracy followed with consecutive goals at the 24 and 33 minute marks, setting the Deacs at 3-0 before halftime.
In the 62nd minute, a save by Edwards led to a goal on the return by sophomore Austin da Luz to put the Deacons up 4-0. The goal was da Luz's first of the season.
Less than two minutes later da Luz assisted in defender Julian Valentin's first goal of the season. The final score of the night put the Deacs up 5-0.
This weekend the Deacons will face the Boston College Eagles, who currently sit at the top of the ACC standings with a 5-0-0 conference record. The match is set for Saturday at 7 p.m in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
