WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest will be participating in the inaugural U.S. Soccer Spring Men's College Program, culminating with an event hosted by the Demon Deacons on April 21.

Six elite programs - Wake Forest, Clemson, Duke, Georgetown, North Carolina and Virginia - will compete in a round-robin tournament. The final round will take place at Spry Stadium in the April 21 event, including Wake Forest vs. Virginia, Duke vs. North Carolina and Georgetown vs. Clemson.

The rules for each game will function similarly to U.S. Soccer Development Academy standards. Games will be played with traditional time keeping, a maximum gameday roster of 18 players and no re-entry.

"Wake Forest is extremely thankful for the invitation to work with U.S. Soccer," head coach Bobby Muuss said. "We feel this is a tremendous opportunity to build a working relationship with U.S. Soccer and its staff. To compete in a competitive Spring format against some of the very best teams in the country using FIFA rules, I believe this will help with the individual and collective development of our program."

During the first six weeks, each college will host two games before closing out the program with all six teams playing at Wake Forest. Upon the conclusion of the round-robin schedule, the team with the most points will be crowned champion. Each game will produce a result; if a game is tied after regulation, there will be two 15-minute extra time periods, and if necessary, penalty kicks will follow.

“We are excited about this program and the role it will play in helping college soccer become more connected to the player development pathway,” U.S. Soccer Youth Technical Director and U-20 Men's National Team head coach Tab Ramos said. “It provides us with additional opportunities to identify more players for Youth National Teams and for the Olympic Team in an environment that mirrors the international game.”
