April 15, 2009 WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's soccer team closes out its spring schedule on Friday, April 17, when it travels to Washington, D.C., to face off against 2008 national champion Maryland at RFK Stadium. Opening kickoff is set for 4 p.m. (ET). The match features the last two national champions in men's college soccer. The Demon Deacons claimed the 2007 crown after defeating Ohio State 2-1 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. Maryland won the 2008 title with a 1-0 win over North Carolina in Frisco, Texas. After the Deacs and Terrapins square off at 4 p.m., D.C. United and the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer will face off at 7 p.m. The Revolution feature former Wake Forest players Wells Thompson and Pat Phelan. The doubleheader is part of the Kicks Against Breast Cancer campaign. Tickets for both games are $20 and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Howard County General Hospital's Claudia Mayer Cancer Resource Center in Columbia, Md.
