WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The MLS season continues to roll on this summer with marquee games which several former Demon Deacons. Here's a look at how these Wake Forest players are faring in the MLS and other professional leagues this season.
Michael Parkhurst - Columbus Crew
Michael Parkhurst has the second most caps among outfield players for the Crew this season, making 18 starts in 19 total appearances for the club. The defender has been named to the 2014 MLS All-Star Team, who will take on FC Bayern Munich on August 6 in Portland. After playing Crystal Palace of the Premier League to a draw on July 23, the Crew will head to Foxboro, Mass. to face New England on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
Sean Okoli - Seattle Sounders
After being on loan with Orange County Blues FC earlier this season, Sean Okoli has returned to the Seattle Sounders. He tallied an assist in the Sounders international friendly with Tottenham Hotspur on July 19 after coming on as a substitute. Okoli has been selected to play in the 2014 MLS Chipotle Homegrown game, which will take place on August 4 in Portland. Seattle will face L.A. Galaxy on Monday, July 28 at 9:00 p.m. EST on ESPN2.
Chris Duvall - New York Red Bulls
Since making his debut in May, Chris Duvall has started eight games for the New York Red Bulls, playing all 90 minutes in seven of those games. The Red Bulls are currently fourth in the Eastern Conference, and face Arsenal of the English Premier League in an international friendly on Saturday which will be televised nationally on ESPN2 at 5 p.m.
Jared Watts - Colorado Rapids
Jared Watts has become a regular in the midfield for the Rapids in his rookie season. He has made eight starts and has 11 total caps. The Rapids enter the second half of the MLS season with 27 points, tied with the LA Galaxy and Vancouver Whitecaps for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
Corben Bone, Brian Carroll, and Michael Lahoud - Philadelphia Union
Three former Demon Deacons have seen action for the Philadelphia Union this season. Brian Carroll has appeared 13 times while making 11 starts. He has one assist on the season. Michael Lahoud picked up an assist in a 3-1 Union victory over New England, and has made four starts on the season. Corben Bone has appeared twice for the Union. Philadelphia hosts Crystal Palace on Friday in a friendly.
Stephen Keel - FC Dallas
Stephen Keel has made 13 starts for FC Dallas this season, matching his career best set in 2011. He has started each of the last four games for the club, who have two wins and two draws during that stretch. FC Dallas heads to Vancouver on Sunday.
Collin Martin and Jalen Robinson - D.C. United
Jalen Robinson has made five appearances since being loaned to Arizona United SC. Collin Martin has made one start and three total appearances for D.C. United. The club stands one point behind Sporting Kansas City for the top spot in the Eastern Conference.
Anthony Arena - Houston Dynamo
Arena was loaned to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the USL PRO this season but was recalled to the Dynamo. He has appeared in eight games for Pittsburgh. Houston hosts Aston Villa on Saturday.
Sam Cronin - San Jose Earthquakes
Cronin, a Winston-Salem native, has started 15 games for San Jose this season and has 16 total caps. A valuable midfielder for the Earthquakes, Cronin and San Jose host Atletico Madrid on Sunday at Candlestick Park in San Francisco.
Ike Opara - Sporting Kansas City
Opara is still recovering after suffering a season-ending injury in March. He had made two starts in three games prior to suffering his injury. Sporting KC sits first in the eastern conference.
James Riley - L.A. Galaxy
Riley continues to recuperate from torn meniscus in his left knee that has sidelined him all season. The Galaxy hosted Manchester United earlier this week and will face Seattle on Monday.
Akira Fitzgerald, Nick Millington and Zack Schilawski - Carolina RailHawks (NASL)
Millington announced his retirement in July to pursue non-soccer opportunities. Fitzgerald has made nine appearances in goal for the RailHawks while Schilawski has tallied three goals.
Austin da Luz - Orlando City FC (USL PRO)
In 11 games this season for Orlando City, da Luz has recorded two goals and one assist in nearly 700 minutes of action.
Wells Thompson, Tolani Ibikunle and Ben Newnam - Charlotte Eagles (USL PRO)
Thompson has been a productive member of the Eagles as he is tied for third on the team in goals with two while also tallying two assists. Newnam has played in 20 games as a starting defender and has logged the most minutes of any player on the team while scoring one goal this season. Ibikunle has played in 10 games this year for the Eagles.
Cody Arnoux - Wilmington Hammerheads (USL PRO)
Arnoux has played in 13 games this season and has one goal for the Hammerheads. He was recently featured in the Wilmington Star News.
Chris Estridge - Indy Eleven (NASL)
Estridge has made six appearances this season for the Indy Eleven.
