Tracy Earns ACC, National Player of the Week Accolades

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Senior forward and Hermann Trophy candidate Marcus Tracy was named the ACC Men's Soccer Co-Player of the Week and College Soccer News National Player of the Week after scoring two game-winning goals last week. Tracy also earned honors from Soccer America, making their Men's Team of the Week.

Tracy enjoyed a strong first week, scoring two goals, including the game winner in both of the Deacons' victories. Against VCU, Tracy scored on a header in the 58th minute off a pass from Corben Bone. Tracy's goal against Florida International also came off of a header, this time in the 57th minute. Senior Evan Brown played a cross that Tracy headed into the net to give the Deacs a lead they would not relinquish.

Through the first week of the season, Tracy leads Wake Forest in goals with two and is tied for the team lead in points with four. Those marks tie him for second among all ACC players.

Evan Brown Named to Top Drawer Soccer's Team of the Week: Senior defender Evan Brown was named to Top Drawer Soccer's Team of the Week after posting a goal and two assists in the opening week.

Brown assisted on the Deacons' first goal of the 2008 season against VCU, playing a pass from 28 yards out that junior Austin da Luz headed into the net.

The Raleigh, N.C., native added a goal and an assist in Wake's 3-0 win over Florida International. Brown assisted on Tracy's game-winning goal in the 57th minute, playing a cross into the box that Tracy headed for a goal. Brown added his first goal of the year in the 60th minute. Da Luz played a cross that found Brown's foot eight yards out. Brown deposited the ball into the back of the net for his first goal of 2008.

 

 

The Wake Forest men's soccer team is back in action on Friday night as it hosts the Deacon Fall Classic Presented by NewBridge Bank. The top-ranked Deacons face No. 14 UCLA on Friday night at 7:30 p.m., before battling South Carolina on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
