CHICAGO - Former Wake Forest standout Michael Parkhurst was one of 24 players called in by head coach Jurgen Klinsmann for the U.S. men's national team's upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Antigua and Barbuda and Guatemala.

A defender, Parkhurst has made 14 appearances for the U.S. and made his second start in a World Cup qualifier last month in a 2-1 loss to Jamaica. Parkhurst plays for Nordsjaelland in Denmark and started for the club in UEFA Champions League matches against Chelsea and Shakhtar Donetsk.

The defender was a two-time All-America selection at Wake Forest, where he started all 62 games he played from 2002-04.

The U.S. is currently tied atop Group A with Guatemala and Jamaica with seven points heading into the final two matches of the third round. The top two finishers in the group will advance to the Hexagonal - the final round of qualifying.

The Americans will travel to face Antigua and Barbuda on Oct. 12 in North Sound, Antigua in a match that will be shown on beIN SPORT, before returning for its final qualifier of the third round against Guatemala on Oct. 16 at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan., which will be broadcast on ESPN2.
