WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest senior defender Kevin Politz was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team, the organization announced on Thursday.

The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom, as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

To be eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-District team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.3 GPA while being a meaningful contributor on the field in at least his second year at the school.

In the classroom, Politz is a mathematical business major with a 3.94 GPA. On the field, he was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year.

He has anchored a back line which leads the ACC with 10 shutouts and a 0.56 goals-against average. Politz also scored the game-winning goal in a victory over then-No. 12 Providence on Aug. 27.

Politz advances onto the ballot for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Teams, which will be selected later this month. He earned the honor in District 3, which is made up of Division I programs in North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. To view the rest of the teams, click here.

The Demon Deacons are in action on Sunday, traveling to Charleston for the ACC Championship game against Virginia at noon on ESPNU.
