KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Wake Forest men’s soccer’s coaching staff – comprised of head coach Bobby Muuss and assistants Steve Armas, Dane Brenner and Mick Giordano – has been named the NSCAA’s South Region Staff of the Year, the organization announced Monday afternoon.

This year, Wake Forest has posted a record of 17-2-3 and is currently preparing for an Elite Eight game on Saturday, Dec. 3, at Spry Stadium against Virginia Tech with a spot in the College Cup on the line. Wake Forest is looking to reach the College Cup for the fifth time in program history, all of which have come since the 2006 season.

The Demon Deacons’ 17 victories thus far ties the team with the 2015 and 2009 teams for the fourth-most wins in a season in program history. The third-best total came in 2006 when the Deacs won 18 games. The program record of 22 came during Wake Forest’s national championship season in 2007.

Throughout the Deacs’ 22 games thus far, Wake Forest has scored 32 goals while allowing just 11. The 11 goals is the second-fewest in the nation and the team’s 0.48 goals against average is tied with Denver for the best mark in the country.

Muuss was named ACC Coach of the Year for the second season in a row earlier this month while six student-athletes earned All-ACC honors, including three named All-ACC First Team in Ian Harkes, Jacori Hayes and Alec Ferrell. Harkes was also named ACC Midfielder of the Year.

The staff will be honored at the College Coaches Awards Reception, presented by Surf Cup Sports, on Jan. 12, 2017, at the JW Marriott Los Angeles in conjunction with the 2017 NSCAA Convention.

NSCAA Regional Staff of the Year recipients will be placed on the ballot for National Staff of the Year consideration. Should a team reach the College Cup and its staff was not named a Regional Staff of the Year, it will be added to the ballot. Voting for the National Staff of the Year will begin on Dec. 6 and end Dec. 13. The NSCAA will announce the Men’s and Women’s National Staff of the Year on Dec. 20.
