Deacs Place Four on All-Region Teams

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest men's soccer team placed four Deacons on All-South Region Teams, including three first team honorees, the United Soccer Coaches announced.

First team selections include forward Jon Bakero, midfielder Luis Argudo and defender Kevin Politz, while Ema Twumasi is a second team selection at forward.

Bakero, a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy for the best player in college soccer, finished his season leading the nation with 46 points. The ACC Offensive Player of the Year also ranks second in the country with 16 goals and 14 assists.

Argudo had a breakout season in the midfield, finishing third on the team in goals (eight) and points (22). The senior started every game for the Deacs had had three game-winning scores.

Politz was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year for his efforts leading the back line, which totaled 13 shutouts and a 0.55 goals-against average this season. Politz also scored the game-winning goal against then-No. 12 Providence.

Twumasi finished his season ranked second on the team with 10 goals and 27 points, tying for third with seven assists, ranking in the top 50 nationally in each category.

Wake Forest concluded the season with a 19-2-2 overall record, currently leading the country in victories and winning percentage. The Demon Deacons won the ACC regular season and tournament titles and reached the NCAA Championship quarterfinals.
