Wake Forest Claims 6-1 Victory Over ETSU
Feb. 20, 2010 WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The 16th ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team defeated ETSU by a score of 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Indoor Tennis Center. Wake Forest improves to 4-1 with the victory and ETSU stalls at 2-5. The 12th ranked doubles duo of Senior Steve Forman and Junior Iain Atkinson took down their opponents by a score of 8-3, and Jon Wolff and Tripper Carleton also claimed an 8-3 victory on the day. In singles play, Jon Wolff jumped out to a quick start and never looked back, as he finished first with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over ETSU's Jesus Bandres. The 74th ranked Carleton followed close behind by defeating ETSU's Grega Teraz 6-0, 6-2 in the top singles position. Senior Steve Forman played a terrific match against Sander Gille, with each set decided by a tiebreaker. Forman claimed a 7-4 tiebreaker victory in the first set before dropping a 7-5 decision in the second set tiebreaker. During the third set, Forman finally earned the first break of the game, taking the lead at 5-3, but Gille battled back to force the third tiebreaker of the match. Forman eventually won the tiebreaker by a score of 7-4. Wake Forest will return to action tomorrow afternoon when they take on Rice University at 12 p.m. The match will take place at the Indoor Tennis Center in Winston-Salem. Wake Forest 6, ETSU 1
