Demon Deacons Tame Tigers 6-1

CLEMSON, S.C. - The Wake Forest men's tennis team picked up its first ACC win of the season in dominating fashion, blowing past Clemson 6-1 at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center in Clemson, S.C. Friday. The No. 39 Demon Deacons move to 7-6 (1-2 ACC), while the No. 58 Tigers fall to 13-5 (0-3 ACC). Wake got the match off to hot start by sweeping the doubles matches after using a new doubles lineup for the second match in a row. Jonathan Wolff and Danny Kreyman picked up the first win for the Deacs at the No. 2 spot, taking down Yannick Maden and Moritz Dettinger 8-5 to improve their record to 13-5 this season. Iain Atkinson and David Hopkins clinched the point at No. 1, defeating Derek DiFazio and Kevin Galloway 8-6. Tripper Carleton and Zach Leslie completed the sweep at No. 3, easing past Juan Bolona and Robert Pietrucha 8-6. The Deacs kept on rolling in singles, winning the first set on four courts. Kreyman put the next point on the board for Wake on Court Four with an impressive 6-2, 6-0 win over Galloway. Leslie put the Demon Deacons close to clinching with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Pietrucha at the bottom singles position. David Hopkins secured the victory for Wake Forest at No. 5, winning two tight sets against Dominique Maden 6-4, 7-6 (4). Rounding out the Deacon victories were Iain Atkinson at No. 3 and No. 70 Jonathan Wolff at No. 2 The Tigers' lone victory came at the top position where No. 106 DiFazio took down No. 88 Carleton 6-4, 6-2.
