Wake Forest Rally Falls Short, Jackets Win 4-3
March 27, 2010 WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The No. 26 Wake Forest men's tennis team fell short to No. 29 Georgia Tech on Saturday, 4-3, at Leighton Stadium. The Demon Deacons are now 7-5 and 1-1 in the ACC. Georgia Tech is 11-3 and 2-1. Wake Forest dropped the doubles point, but after the point was clinched 16th-ranked Iain Atkinson and Steven Forman made an impressive comeback at No. 1. The duo was trailing Kevin King and Juan Spir 6-3, but rallied to knot the score at 7-7 and push forward for a 9-7 win. Danny Kreyman gave the Deacons a lift with a smooth 6-3, 6-2 win over Magin O'Brien at No. 5 singles. Iain Atkinson followed with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Miguel Muguruza at No. 4 singles to push the Deacons forward 2-1. Jonathon Wolff wrapped up at No. 3 with a 7-5, 7-6 win over Eliot Potvin, but Tripper Carleton finished just moments later, dropping a 2-6, 6-0, 7-5 decision to Kevin King at No. 2. Zach Leslie fell behind early at No. 6 and it looked like the match was going to be determined at No. 1, where Steven Forman battled the nation's fifth-ranked player, Guillermo Gomez. The competitors split sets, taking both to tiebreakers. Forman opened the third set with a 4-0 advantage, but just as he was gaining momentum a leg cramp forced him to take a timeout. Forman received treatment but clearly wasn't playing at 100 percent. Gomez took advantage and surged forward to take a 7-5 win in the final set. Zach Leslie rallied after dropping the first set to Juan Spir 6-2. Leslie pulled ahead 5-4, but was unable to clinch the win and finished with a 6-2, 7-5 loss.
Wake Forest will return to the courts on Sunday, hosting Clemson at 12 p.m. #29 Georgia Tech 4, #26 Wake Forest 3
